The Goblin Warhammer Online Mastery Guide Review
Posted by admin in Carson Tips on February 8, 2010
In a highly competitive game like Warhammer Online, it’s hard for players that aren’t hardcore power players to get ahead. I used to be completely opposed to strategy guides because I always thought that they were up there with cheating. My favorite part of using the Goblin Warhammer Online Mastery Guide was the fact that it gave you great tips, tricks and strategies but without using exploits or taking advantage of glitches or anything like that. I didn’t feel like I was cheating but rather getting up to speed with the techniques being used by everyone else.
The Goblin Warhammer Mastery Guide features a gold guide, both an order and a destruction leveling guide, renown guide, career guide, and perhaps the most important guide to success in Warhammer Online, an RvR guide. When you purchase the guide all these become available to you along with video guides and a membership the member forums.
My favorite part was the leveling guide. I didn’t pick up the guide until I was around level 30 on my Ironbreaker so I didn’t get to test it out all the way from the beginning but it did help me get to 40 much faster than I would have otherwise. Then, I wanted to test the guide to see if it held up to it’s promise in being able to level all the way from 1 – 40 in three days. I created a Marauder, consulted the guide and off I went. To my extreme surprise, I finished at 40 in just under 3 days. I was amazed because I am far from an awesome gamer and I’ve always been one to lag behind in MMOs.
The thing that makes this guide the most valuable though is because it’s constantly updated. Most online guides, and especially hard copy guides you can buy in stores, are created and then quickly become irrelevant as the game progresses. The Goblin Guide is always relevant and never gets outdated. This is worth the purchase price alone.
Overall I would definitely give this guide a 10/10. With all the different guides you get, plus the video guides, plus the member forum, plus the constant updates, it’s an excellent value (especially with the 60 day guarantee). I’d recommend this guide to anyone who is struggling or just looking to pick up a few extra pointers, tips, or strategies in Warhammer Online.

How to Make a Video Game Players Guide
Posted by admin in Carson Tips on February 5, 2010
If you are interested in the pursuit of making video games but don’t know where to start writing a game players guide is a good first option. It will give you a good understanding of the playability of games and how they are structured. You don’t have to be a great writer to create a great guide but you do have to know some basic rules. It will also give you some great insight and experience toward making your own games in the future.
Decide which type of game guide you are going to write
There are many different types of guides and the first thing you need to decide is which type you are going to write. There are four different types and the first type is the walk-thru. This is the most common type where you guide the player through a series of steps in the game. This could be a complete guide or just a guide to a certain portion or quest. The second type is the character guide, which explains many of the different skills, options, and abilities of a specific character type. The third type is the beginner’s guide, which helps beginners get familiar with a game, how it works, and how the interface operates. The fourth type is a performance guide, which helps players achieve certain levels and goals within a game.
Once you have decided which type of guide you are going to write you need to embark on the most important step of the process –you need to start a notebook and take notes. You might have a great understanding of the game but your reader doesn’t; and when writing your guide you may leave out small details that are simple for you but are not known by your audience. Take a lot of detailed notes and never make assumptions as to what the reader of your guide knows. If your guide is going to be long and complex you may want to use flowcharting techniques to help you understand the choices and decisions that are made in the game. Flowcharting is a great way to manage complex tasks with lots of decisions.
Get a second opinion
Another critical thing you should do when writing a guide is to get an impartial opinion from somebody else. This can be a friend, colleague, or even an anonymous person that you find on a forum or website. The important thing is that you have the person actually try to use the guide without you giving them any hints or tips. This person will give you feedback and tips about sections that were hard to understand or that didn’t seem to make sense. Consider any feedback to be the most important part of the process. It is easy for you to go through your guide –after all you did write it. But another person going through it doesn’t have the same understanding as you do. So get some feedback and make any changes that would clarify things for other players. An important thing to think about here is that if you have to explain anything at all to the test user of your guide then something needs to be fixed in the guide. It should be completely stand alone and understandable without you explaining anything. You won’t be able to explain things to all your readers right? If your test reader has questions you should write them down and incorporate your answers into the written version of the guide.
Some Final Tips
You should always write spoiler alerts at the beginning of your guide or at different sub-sections. Let the reader know that you are going to solve very specific problems and tasks in the game. Some people like the problems to be solved for them but many players like the challenge of figuring certain things out for themselves. By writing spoiler alerts you give your reader the option and the control over how he or she plays the game.
If you are attempting your first game guide you should consider doing a small one. Take on the challenge of only a small portion of the game or only a certain task or quest. This will help you build some writing skills and will help you avoid the discouragement of not finishing the guide. Writing a large guide can be a daunting task and it can be easy for you to give up on it. Start with a small guide and complete it so you get the satisfaction of having the project done.
Chances are that you are very passionate about a particular video game and you have a lot of knowledge about it. You probably enjoy playing the game a lot and by writing a players guide you can show off your expertise and get even more enjoyment by helping other people play the game. You don’t have to be a great writer to put together a great guide but you do need to follow some simple rules: keep the information organized, communicate clearly to your audience and get somebody to test your guide then pay careful attention to any feedback you are given.
World of Warcraft In-Game Strategy Guides – The New Rage
Posted by admin in Carson Tips on February 3, 2010
As we shift towards the interactive age we begin to see signs of the new era in virtual interactive design. All one has to do is look at the current generation consoles, such as the Wii and the PS3 that provide controls intertwined into your movements. The era continues forward in other gaming areas as well. One of the newest innovations is in the strategy guides department. And of course, the engine of this new strategy guide method is none other than World of Warcraft.
The WoW guide department has been littered with good ones and bad ones, they have been reviewed and tried throughout the community and the cream has risen to the top. With the market saturated with Warcraft guides, what new template could be offered? Enter the In-Game Strategy Guide.
At the forefront is the Zygor Guide, this cool guide provides a software addon as well as the standard ebook format. The in-game portion displays as a small window on the game screen, it actually has two display options, the Big Guide, which is the large in-game window, and the Small Guide which is the small in-game window. It is an incredibly cool idea and really adds to the stale ebook strategy guide format. No more alt-tabbing in and out of the game, the in-game guide actually provides the path within the game.
Not to be left behind, Team Idemise and Joanna’s Horde Leveling Guide also provide in-game guide software. Team Idemise presents itself as an in-game waypoint system that points you exactly where you need to go. Joanna’s Guide provides a mod for in-game leveling as well, it is specifically for Wrath of the Lich King but she is about to release one as well for her first flagship as well.
The future is exciting for the online gaming community. But not just for them, imagine the guides that will install directly into console games so that those offline gamers will have this interactive option too. This will push the guide industry forward as the demand grows. This trend will expand exponentially.
It’s exciting to consider what other innovations that WoW strategy guides will begin to offer in the near future.
WoW Quest Helper – Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide Review, The Faster Easiest Way To Level Gold PvP Guide
Posted by admin in Carson Tips on February 2, 2010
WoW quest helper is hard to come by. There are a ton of them. What’s even harder to find is a guide that will cover alot of what you need to get started on the right foot. Thankfully, based on my experience I found a guide that covers all this ground effectively.
Dugi’s Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide was one of the best quest helpers out there already. I thought it was good too, but my beef was that it was way behind in the in-game leveling guide category. I thought that it needed a mod to guide you by the hand within the game itself, much like some of the newer WoW leveling guides. That has now changed, Dugi has added an in-game leveling guide. Coupled with the gold guide and pvp guide, this seems like a formidable package, let’s see the leveling guide first.
If you’ve seen some of the other in-game leveling guides, then you might have noticed that they sometimes take alot of screen real estate. Well Dugi changes all this by making the smallest in-game leveling guide out there, due to its compact size its great for laptop users. Let’s look at a few more features.
Dugi’s Leveling Guide is an in-game waypoint arrow that points you directly to where you need to go. That alone is great, but it also comes with a few other features that really make the leveling experience the easiest I’ve ever seen. The add-on automatically detects objective completion and let’s you know what the next step is. It has detailed instructions for every single quest, all you have to do is hover over the guide and it shows you the order of steps. It has automatic class detection and tells you which items to use and at what times.
Dugi’s leveling guide has a new and exclusive feature which I really enjoyed, it is a step-by-step in-game Leveling Talent Guide. If you’ve played for awhile then you know how leveling talent correctly will help you to level faster. This is nice exclusive feature, no other WoW quest helper has anything like it.
Dugi’s World of Warcraft Leveling Guide comes with full access to member only forums. I’ve test posted and found the community very nice and responsive. The members site also has full technical support as well as what I consider the best video tutorials of any of the leveling guides I’ve tested. This in-game leveling guide is very nicely done.
Dugi’s PvP Guide is also part of the package. What’s interesting about this guide is that it is actually a very interactive members website. Yes, that is correct, it’s not an ebook. I was surprised by this approach but I found that it works alot better than an ebook. For instance, there is the class page, it has not only the best strategies utilized for each class, but also the best macros to use, and what’s really cool are the video tutorials. Each subpage explaining the class PvP strategies is full of links that lead to deeper explanations if you need them. This is full of PvP information and it’s very well organized. Thumbs up.
Dugi’s Farming Gold Guide and Professions Guide are done very well also. They are also interactive websites and not ebooks. They include video tutorials that will help a player of any level. I found this well done, and the first method he teaches is simple yet very effective. I can’t disclose it of course, but as a seasoned veteran I was surprised I had missed this particular gold farming strategy. It’s all white hat so no worries there. I’ll add that all of Dugi’s guides are legitimate and legal strategies. Again, this portion of the WoW quest helper is great. I’ll add quickly that the forums are very cool, there you will find a bunch of secret areas, and tried and true methods above and beyond just the guides themselves.
All in all, a great set of guides. Dugi actually has a very practical strategy that he describes as this. First; get one level 80: Second; fund your characters gold: Third; Dominate in PVP. I found this to be a great approach. I highly recommend this WoW quest helper, so far it’s the best I’ve used. Good luck!
